I have had my Coby MP3 player for about a month now and it worked it great from the start. Read the user manual from cover to cover and couldn’t believe how easy it was to use. This player also comes with a USB cable (even though you can insert the player directly into a USB port for direct transfer), a AAA battery, and ear bud headphones. You can also store all kinds of files (Word, Excel, JPEG, etc). A great value! I wouldn’t hesitate to purchase another Coby product in the future.

Customer Review: Pretty good sound and very portable
Sound quality is pretty good given the size of the unit. There is no woofer of course, so bass response is relatively weak. The system will fold flat and fit in your pocket, allowing you have a mini stereo system any time any where. I wanted to play mp3’s in my aircraft hangar. Given the hollow shell building, the sound carries to all 3,000 sq. ft. Sound quality is acceptable but not quite as good as a larger “boom box” stereo.

Customer Review: Good value but strange delays
I’ve only had this thing a few weeks, and overall I think it’s worth the $$, but I’ve noticed a strange issue. I put in a 2 gig card filled with music. When I first turn the thing on it takes an inordinate amount of time to ‘boot up’, as if it wasn’t built to handle 2 gigs of music. The problem seems to be worse when the battery is getting old.

I do wish that it had a clip on the back in addition to the eye on the top.

You really need a rechargable battery with it.

Got it yesterday. Didn’t work. Just creates an annoying sound. Comes in the annoying package that just makes it a pain to return. Here is $7 I’ll never see again. A shame they don’t give you the option of zero stars. Amazon however is the best. Never had a problem with them, it’s definitely about the product, not the seller.

Customer Review: good mp3 player for the price, useless as voice recorder

Warning, do not buy this if you are planning on using it as a voice recorder. It simply does not have the function despite what the ad/specs say.

I bought this mainly to use as a voice recorder, and planned on rarely using it to play mp3s. Let me make this perfectly clear: there is NO voice recording function on this player, despite what the ad says. Page 16 of the instructions indicate that there is a “Record” function accessible from the main menu between “FM Tuner” and “Settings”. However, the function simply does not exist at all, and the menu skips directly from “FM Tuner” and “Settings”. It also says that you can hold the record button down from the playback screen, but that does not access the Record function either. But surely there’s a firmware update, right? Wrong. The only software/firmware on the Coby site is a Windows 98me driver. The instruction manual squarely lies, and so does the specs, there is no voice recording function accessible on this player.

As an mp3 player? Go for it! If you don’t need the voice recorder function, and that’s what you want cheap, small, lightweight, and 2GB, this will do just fine.

Also, there is a plastic piece that surrounds the headphone jack that makes it difficult to plug in certain headphones (2 out of 2 that I owned before). You can snap the needless plastic piece off if you don’t mind it looking a little ugly, but that is a poor design.

Update: Get the Coby MP-C895 instead (link below). It actually does contain a voice recorder function, and its headphone plug accepts any headphone. Other than that it is the same.
